Katsina: HUK Poly Rolls Out 10 years Development Plan

A ten-year development plan is to be rolled out for the academic and structural transformation of Katsina State polytechnic. Management of the institution, also known as Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, has to this end, inaugurated a committee to ensure the success of the development plan. Rector of the school, Prof Haruna Yusuf, who stated this to newsmen yesterday, said the development plan was initiated in 2015, but was renewed for another 10 years to address challenges facing the school. Yusuf said management of the polytechnic had introduced four new courses and was awaiting accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE. He identified the four courses to include HND in Computer Science, Hospitality Management, Science Laboratory and Food Technology. The Rector said the new courses were in addition to 19 others, introduced in 2012 and the five in 2015, which have all been accredited by NBTE. He said the institution also plans to invest in staff development to ensure all-round impact of the development plan. He said already, N25.9m has been set aside for academic staff training and conference. He said the amount is a balance of monies not used in 2014 and 2015, and that additional N25m has been given by the state government for the same purpose. Prof. Yusuf, however, called on staff to re-dedicate themselves to duty to ensure the set objectives were achieved.
