Katsina State Ministry of Education has closed down three (3) private schools in Daura town. The state commissioner for Education -Professor Halimatus-sa’adiyya Idris gave the directive during an inspection visit to Daura Town.
According to the commissioner, this was as a result of their failure to adhere strictly to the guidelines of opening and maintaining private schools in the state.
The commissioner further explained that for a private school to operate in the state, it must have its own land which will qualified it to be issued with temporary permit to operate for a period of five (5) years. She added that a private school must also expected to have a conducive environment for its students’ learning and a statement of account with a minimum deposit amount of One Million Naira (N1,000,000) for a primary school and Two Million Naira (N2,000,000) for a secondary school.
The education commissioner also said a school must be registered with the co-operate Affairs Commission and has a health institution unit as well as a security clearance. The commissioner also enjoined the school proprietors to adhere strictly to the guidelines to avoid closure.
The three (3) schools closed are:
(1) Queens College
(2) Peace Setters Nursery And Primary School and
(3) Al-Miskat College
