Katsina: Multi million Naira Recycling Plant Abandoned

A multi-million naira waste recycling plant installed by the federal government is wasting away in Katsina, LEADERSHIP Sunday can authoritatively report.

Findings revealed that the Federal government, in October 2009, awarded contract for the procurement and installation of one multipurpose plastic wastes recycling plant in the state.

The contract was awarded to one Abdul Associates to the tune of N15, 089, 074. 55 out of which the sum of N12, 071, 259. 40 was paid to the contractor.

It was gathered that the project was completed since 2013 and was awaiting commissioning.

Our correspondent who visited the plan situated within the premises of Katsina State Ministry of Environment reports that the multi million naira plant has been lying waste and obviously forgotten as  it has not been put into use.

It was observed that the plant is desolate with dirt all over even as a staff of the ministry disclosed that the plant has become a habitation for snakes.

It was further observed that the ceiling of the building housing the plant has been consumed by termites just as few that were left have fallen off.
