Dr. Usman Bugaje has conveyed a 5-day workshop for the agricultural transformation under the aegis the North-western governors forum. The workshop was attended by commissioners and permanent secretaries of the ministries of agriculture from participating states as well as directors and other stakeholders in agriculture. There were also members from various federal institutions incharge of agriculture and some donor agencies.
The workshop which was organised by Arewa Research and Development Project (ARDP) aimed at drawing and subsequent drafting of a northern agenda document that will drive the transformation of the agricultural sector in the participating states. The conveyor of the workshop and the chairman of the ARDP -Dr. Usman Bugaje said his organisation will work hand-in-hand with governments of the participating states towards the revival of the agric sector.
According to him he said “we discussed with them and all of them agreed that agriculture should the first sector to be revived and they sent their agricultural commissioners, permanent secretaries, directors to the work shop”m other areas to be worked in according to the conveyor are solid mineral sector, technology, education, energy and industrialisation.
Commenting on the workshop, the Kaduna State Commissioner for agriculture and forestry -Dr Manzo Daniel Maigari said the workshop was intended to generate inputs for the development of agriculture in the 7 northwestern states of Nigeria.
Earlier, the Katsina State permanent secretary of Agriculture and Natural Resources -Alhaji Sulaiman Yakubu Safana expresses appreciation to the conveyor for choosing Katsina State to host the workshop.
Those in attendance of the workshop includes Director Katsina state Agricultural and rural development agency (KATARA) – Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu Musawa, Director Forestry -Alhaji Musa Hassan and Kebbi State APC chairman Barrister Attahiru among others.
