A 25-year-old man, Jabiru Ahmed, is now at loggerheads with the family of a lady he allegedly impregnated, but whose father refused to give him in marriage.
Reports say trouble started when the lady’s father asked him to settle the hospital bills incurred by the family when the lady had a premature delivery.
The Katsina Emirate Council that initially handled the case had transferred it to the Police, following the inability of the man and the lady’s family to reach peaceful settlement.
The lady at the centre of the feud, Rumasa’u Tukur, her father, Tukur Yakubu and Jabiru, who are residents of Katoge village in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, all appeared before a Katsina Senior Magistrate Court on Monday, to state their individual side of the case.
The presiding magistrate, Hajiya Fadilat Dikko, fixed October 6, 2016 for the continuation of hearing on the case.
The court heard that Jabiru had, sometime ago, approached Rumasa’u’s father, to inform him about his intention to marry his daughter.
The father was said to have asked Jabiru to come with his family if he was serious about his intention.
The father, however, told the court that Jabiru did not come back, while, unknown to him, Jabiru had been sleeping with Rumasa’u, who later became pregnant for Jabiru despite the fact that the father had allegedly concluded arrangements to marry her off to another man.
Rumasa’u’s husband discovered the pregnancy after allegedly paying the necessary dowry on her, a development which made him to send her back to her family, sequel to which he demanded the refund of the dowry.
The Police said Rumasa’u was then taken to Turai Yar’Adua Hospital in Katsina, where she eventually gave birth to a stillborn baby girl.
It was further learnt that Rumasa’u’s father then approached Jabiru to offset the hospital bills incurred during her admission, the request which he (Jabiru) allegedly shunned.
The matter was initially taken to the ward head at Kankara for settlement, but he eventually referred it to the Katsina Emirate Council when he could not settle it.
The Emirate Council also transferred the case to the Police following the refusal of the parties involved to agree to peaceful settlement.
The Police in its First Information Report with number KT/932C/2016 on the case, preferred a one-count charge on Jabiru, which is entitled “Adultery by a man, contrary to Section 387 Penal Code Law.”
