Katsina, CBN, BOI Commenced Census Of Rice Farmers, 3 Other Crops

Katsina State Government in collaboration with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Bank of Industry among other stakeholders at the weekend commenced the census of rice, cotton, wheat, and tomato farmers in the state.

The census questionnaire had its focus on size of the farms, owner of the land, soil type and type of crops cultivated by the farmers who were interviewed based on their classifications.

Speaking at Mashi, the State Coordinator of FADAMA who doubles as the Daura Zone Supervisor of the Katsina State Farmers’ data information system, Bishir Bala Zango, revealed that the zone alone might register more than 20, 000 farmers expected to be registered by the three zones in the state in view of the response of the farmers.

Zango, accompanied by the representatives of CBN, BOI and the National Agricultural Insurance Corporation, among others, expressed delight over the acceptance of the programme by farmers across the state

He disclosed that the government and its partners would conduct baseline survey measurement of the registered farmers to verify the statistics of the farmers and their farms.

The zonal supervisor expressed satisfaction of his team with the conduct of the exercise after an inspection visit to several local government areas in the zone.

Receiving the team at across the zone, the coordinator of the exercise in the respective local government areas, the community leaders and traditional rulers of the areas described the farmers’ response as salutary.
