Katsina: UNICEF, DFID moves to enroll 207,138 new female children in schools

A two day coordination meeting with relevant Girl Education Project GEP stakeholders aimed at attaining a set target of 207,138 new female child enrolment in school by year 2020 in Katsina has commenced.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, A UNICEF desk officer at the state ministry of education, Binta Abdulmumin said the workshop intends to improve synergy and effective coordination towards achieving the GEP results.

In addition, the workshop intends to discuss reasons why girls do not attend schools as well as brainstorm on ways forward with a view to coming with an action plan to improve opportunities to basic education for all girls in the six focus LGA’s of Batsari, Baure, Faskari, Kankara, Kankia and Rimi.

In his remarks, UNICEF Education specialist, Muntaka Mukhtar said the overall objectives is to initiate a platform for synergy and onward dialogue among various structures operational in the GEP saying that School Based Management Committee are critical actors towards attaining GEP goal.

It was in view of this that about 2400 SBMC members were trained just as grants of about N48m have been doled out to 95 schools with new additional 97 coming them to improve on their respective schools.
